Mushroom Cultivation on Logs 101
This class offers an overview on how to cultivate mushrooms on logs, from log selection to mushroom harvest. It will include a tour of our laying yard in the forest, hands-on practice on inoculating logs with sawdust spawn, and handouts to take home. Bring your own cut logs and spawn to make for yourself or practice on our logs. The class is free, but there will be opportunities to purchase finished logs in small quantities if you want to take them home, and donations to support our work at the AgroEcology Center are accepted.
We will be discussing Shiitake and Oyster mushroom production specifically, but the same cultivation techniques can be applied to a range of wood loving mushrooms for outdoor cultivation. It’s an exciting opportunity to explore a new skill and gain hands-on experience in mushroom cultivation. Children are welcome to participate, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
*This class will be held outdoors/in the barn. Please be prepared for seasonal weather.
