DIY Solar Food Dehydrator Workshop and Build Day

August 17 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Join Zachary Charles of Off Type Sauce & Spice to learn how to build a DIY Solar Food Dehydrator and help build one for the community to use, hosted at the North Shore AgroEcology Center here in Finland!

The workshop will take place on Saturday, August 17th from 1-3pm where Zach will go over what materials are needed, tips & tricks, and how to use your solar dehydrator most effectively, then starting to build as a group. There is an option to continue help build after workshop time on Saturday and/or join for a volunteer build day on Sunday, August 18th from 10-4pm if you are interested in going through the whole process and helping make this community resource a reality. You do not have to attend the Saturday workshop to help us build on Sunday.

“I built this solar dehydrator in 2020 so that I could dehydrate my favorite paprika style peppers. It was a great pandemic project. Relatively easy to build, simple design, and very effective. Over the last four years, I’ve dehydrated many different vegetables and herbs and preserved them well after the growing season. Solar dehydrators are great way to build food resilience, not to mention being very efficient.”

This is a free class made possible by the Finland Food Chain, North Shore AgroEcology Center, and a generous grant from the Laura Jane Musser Foundation. Please RSVP here for whichever parts you plan to attend.
