In this class, Kaare Melby of Finnskogen Farm will share the no-till Wine Cap mushroom bio-bed technique he has been developing for the past several years. The benefits of this system are many: little-to-no weeding, water retention of the mycelium and substrate helps prevent drought damage, and nutrient regulation through the mycelium provides a balanced and regulated ecosystem that responds directly to each individual plants needs. This results in healthier plants and as a result, more nutrient dense food. As a happy side effect, you also get tons of yummy mushrooms throughout the season, which turns your garden chores into an exciting quest to find all the mushrooms hiding between plants.
.
If you want to learn how to incorporate this method into your garden, join us on Thursday, June 8th, 4pm at the North Shore AgroEcology Center in Finland, MN. This class will involve hands-on experience building one of these bio-beds and planting crops into it, and the opportunity to purchase the mushroom spores on site so you can replicate it easily at home!
