Charlotte Hughes – Farm & Program Manager
Stay tuned for a bio… in the meantime, check out the Producer Profile from the Finland Food Chain!
His story began on a family farm in SW MN, where as a 4th generation farmer, he and his family raised the standard fare of corn, soybeans, and their livestock of choice (turkeys). After leaving the conventional family farm, he moved out to the Pacific Northwest and discovered Permaculture, Biodynamics and AgroEcology, opening the mind and vision to a whole new path of working with the land. This marked the beginning of a new phase of his work in food production.
When that cycle of life-learning came to a close, he returned to Minnesota, and began working with, and organizing in, the Minneapolis urban farming movement. There he had the supreme joy of starting Growing Lots Urban Farm with the help of a local non-profit, and grew the farm for 5 years as a CSA and Market Farm alongside friends and volunteers.
Since then, he spent a season farming in SW Colorado, and another in the wooded countryside of Mora, MN. His passion around farming is personified by small-scale diversified farming systems that blend into the regional environment, enhancing the productivity and health of the land for all species, while maintaining a strong focus on the power of local farms as the economic base for small communities. It was with this experience and perspective that Stefan joined the AgroEcology Center in the Spring of 2017 as the Farm Manager, and works alongside the OCA Staff.
